Under new plans to be implemented in the new year, all public areas, especially St Helier will be smoke free. The area of St Catherine’s woods will be Jerseys only outdoor smoking area.
The health minister said ‘it is right that the public should be able to enjoy smoke free air in our town centre. Our new plan to make St Catherine’s the only smoking area fits well with the island plan and no one really goes there anyway, it’s in St Martins after all, thus we can keep those who wish to smoke out the way and our town centre can flourish.
We appreciate this may cause fires, but the area is always muddy, even in the summer so the ground is always wet, it should be a safe area.
