Two women who knocked on a door in Jersey have confirmed they were only asking for directions, not money.
The pair were lost in the St Martins area and were looking for their hostel.
An online barrage of abuse was started on a social media forum, which the girls later discovered was about them.
“We didn’t want money, we were asking how to get home. We are sorry we were lost, we thought Jersey people would be helpful. The comments on social media just assumed the worst about us, its really unfair. Especially as we don't speak the best english either.
The pair got home eventually and will take a map next time.
