Jersey’s largest ferry operator have confirmed the design of the Liberation is based on a children’s bath boat. The engineering firm who designed the ship said they were told ‘we kind of just need it to float really’.
The company gave engineers a draft design (above) and they were then told ‘This one floats, so just make it bigger and add some engines. The engineers pointed out the design flaws, but the company insisted it was based on their draft.
The company also insisted it was cheaper to build a boat that’ broke down easily’ rather than invest in one that ran efficiently.
